Beccadelli Palace
Beccadelli Palace was built at the wishes of the Marquises of Sambuca. The most famous representative of this family was Giuseppe Beccadelli of Bologna, born in Sambuca on the 2nd of July 1726. In 1777 he was given the title of Marquis as the first born and sole heir to his father. He died in Palermo in 1813 and was buried in Sambuca in the Monastery of the Capuchins. The construction of the palace was carried out over a fairly long time period and on the site of pre-existing buildings that occupied an entire block, bordered by Via Beccadelli, Via Baglio Grande, Via Pietro Caruso and Corso Umberto I. The area also included the Church of Saint Sebastian, Pietro Caruso Hospital, other ancient buildings and lastly the enormous “Beccadelliano”. The wide “catalan” staircase situated in the internal courtyard and the monumental central balcony, illustrated with the family’s coat of arms, are magnificent.
