Church of the Rosary
The church of the Rosary, situated in the narrow Saracen streets of the northern part of the town, was founded by a Jesuit and built between 1554 and 1664. At the beginning of the XVI century Jesuits arrived in Sambuca and, in order to destroy the superstitions regarding the presence of ghosts, they raised funds and built a chapel on whose wall they painted the image of the Miraculous Madonna of the Stairs. The faithful, inspired with great passion by the numerous miracles that took place, gathered funds with which they built, in place of the chapel, a church dedicated to Our Lady of the Rosary. The finely carved large wooden door dating back to the beginning of the XIX century and dedicated to Saint Domenic of Cusman, creator of the ‘Rosary’, is magnificent.
