"Panitteri Palace" Archaeological Museum
Museums
Sambuca di Sicilia (AG)
The “Palazzo Panitteri” Archaeological Museum
was inaugurated in 2013 and collects select artefacts originating from the
archaeological site of Mount Adranone. The museum’s emblem is the blonde-haired
Goddess Demeter. Among the findings it is possible to admire bronze belts,
strigils, grave goods, Attic ceramic vases and Punic vases, columns and
capitals, both Doric and Ionic. The exhibition trail leads through the
seventeenth century rooms of the Panitteri Palace, which belonged to an
important family of Sambuca. The building, spread over two levels, has a
quadrangular layout with an internal courtyard enriched with ornamental
Mediterranean plants and a ‘catalana stairway’ that leads to the main floor.
