Panitteri Palace
Panitteri Palace, originally Truncali, is one of the most important monuments in Sambuca. Built as a large outpost tower along the walls that surrounded ancient Zabut (today Sambuca), it later became an aristocratic residence. The structure is characterised by features inspired by late Rennaisance combined with elements of the imminent arrival of Sicilian Baroque, evidence of which includes the main entrance portal on which stands the Panitteri family coat of arms. The palace preserves the original quadrangular layout with an ample internal courtyard from which open vast storerooms. A ‘catalan’ staircase leads to the main floor, today home to the Palazzo Panitteri Archaeological Museum. In the courtyard a short underpass leads to the garden, dominated by diverse specimens of Mediterranean plants.
