Church of Saint Joseph

Menfi (AG)
The church of Saint Joseph and the neighbouring church of Jesus and Mary, both built in the eighteenth century, are the only ones to have resisted the 1968 earthquake. The most ancient is the latter, inside which precious stucco decorations and an eighteenth century canvas, depicting Jesus and Mary and credited to Brother Felix of Sambuca, are preserved. The church of Saint Joseph was erected in 1715, with a façade marked by three orders, of which the last, which has been lost, housed the recess with the statue of the Saint. The interior has a single nave and preserves valued eighteenth century works of art: a wooden polychrome statue of Saint Lucy, attributed to the sculptor Filippo Quattrocchi; a painting depicting Saint Eligio; a small wooden statue by an unknown artist that portrays Saint Biagio and a large altarpiece showing the Marriage of Joseph.
