Planeta Palace
Planeta Palace was built during the second half of the eighteenth century by the rich Bivona family, Menfi landowners. The original structure was extended more than once over the years but the building only took on its current appearance at the end of the XIX century with the addition of the main floor. In 1891 Francesca Bivona married Giovanni Battista Planeta, Baron of Sainta Cecilia, from the ancient Sambucan family who moved to Palermo. From that union Vito was born, who married Giuseppina Benso Ferreri of the Dukes of Verdura. In 1997 their children donated the palace to the municipality of Menfi that restored it and gave it back to the city in 2008. Today it is the headquarters of the Terre Sicane Wine Route Enoteca that organises cultural activities designed to promote wine and other typical products from the area.
