Cattolica Eraclea

Agrigento

Cattolica was founded in 1612 by Blasco Isfar et Corillas who named it in honour of his most religious Majesty King Filippo III of Spain. He was immediately promoted to baronial ranking and later to dukedom. The current name was established by a Royal Decree in 1874 that added to the original name that of the ancient Greek colony ‘Eraclea’.
