Vita (TP)
The origins of the Church of Our Lady of Tagliavia dates back to 1896, when “in a dream the Holy Virgin instilled the building of this chapel, dedicated to her, in a wealthy farmer of the town, Giuseppe Perricone Monaco. On awakening from the dream he moved his arm that had been paralysed for almost a year and, grateful for the miracle, he made a vow”. In 1933 the current church was built through the generosity of his daughter Maria Perticone Triolo. Between 1962 and 1964 it was decorated by the painter Luigi Maniscalco from Santa Caterina of Villarmosa with frescoes depicting the mysteries of the Rosary and some events in Mary’s life. Over time, the 1968 earthquake, water infiltration and natural transformations compromised the original beauty of said frescoes, which led to the restoration work carried out between 2005 and 2006.
