Church of Saint Augustine and the "Deposition"
The Saint Augustine church was built in the fourteenth century at the east-end of the town, a walk away from the Gogala cliff. It overlooks the public gardens that in the past were assigned to the Carmelite friars of the church. The portal dates back to 1742 and adjacent to it lies the bell tower, characterised by simple double lancet windows. Inside you can admire frescos from the Old Testament, a Madonna by Antonello Gagini (XVI century) and the “Deposition”, the sculptor Ferraro’s masterpiece carried out in 1552 of eight life-size figures in polychrome majolica terracotta.
