Saint Augustine School
The Saint Augustine convent was the twelfth founded by Augustinian priests in Sicily. It was preserved in its entirety until around the end of the nineteen twenties. At the beginning of the fascist period it was partially demolished and replaced by an imposing “Littorio” style building used as a primary school. This is characterised by its standard design spread over two floors and its large external courtyard. It is enclosed between the back of the eighteenth century Church of Saint Augustine and the fifteenth century remains of the ancient monastery to the west and by the walls of the public gardens to the north-east. The entrance portal stands out from the front façade, dominated by a finely carved stone balcony, below which the municipal coat-of-arms, interlaced with two fasces, is engraved.
