Filangeri di Cutò Palace
Palace
Santa Margherita di Belice (AG)
Filangeri di Cutò Palace was built in the XVII century by the Corbera, a noble family of Spanish origin. It was later passed onto the Filangeri di Cutò, maternal ancestors of the celebrated writer Giuseppe Tomasi of Lampedusa. Tomasi spent the summers of his childhood here, between the years 1905 and 1914, later using it as a model for the Donnafugata Palace of “The Leopard”. Having almost been completely destroyed during the earthquake (only the façade was salvaged), it was partially rebuilt and today houses the Town Hall, the Gattopardo Museum, The Giuseppe Tomasi Literary Park Institute and the Sant’Alessandro Theatre.
