Museum of "The Leopard"
Museums
Santa Margherita di Belice (AG)
The structure of the museum was based entirely on the famous novel “The Leopard” by Guiseppe Tomasi of Lampedusa. Here you can admire for example the original manuscript of the work with corrections made by the author before the final draft. Among the collections exhibited there are the author’s letters, notes, documentations and period photographs, while multimedia stations show critical essays and films dedicated to the work. A completely unpublished document is the tape recording of the writer’s voice that accompanies the visitor on his path through the museum. It is a unique recording, carried out for fun one morning in 1956 when the writer gave his adoptive son Gioacchino Lanza Tomasi a tape recorder as a gift and, to see how it worked, had the idea of registering his voice while he recited one of his stories titled “Lighea” (English edition: The Siren).
