Church of Saint Francis of Paola
Churches
Castelvetrano (TP)
Up until the eighteenth century it was a small structure located in a space below the Saint Francis of Paola convent. It was built in stages: at first the main chapel and the two chapels lateral to the main altar were constructed (1701-1732), over the following years the rest of the structure was built but was only decorated at the beginning of the nineteenth century.
Inside a wooden statue of Saint Francis is kept, made by Girolamo Bagnasco. Frescoes carried out by Trapani-born Francesco Cutrona can be admired in the vaults of the single nave, in the main chapel and in the transept, while the dome is decorated with eighteenth century frescoes attributed to Vito D’Anna.
