In the left wall of the nave of the Sanctuary of the Crucifix an entrance leads to the rounded Baptistery chapel or the Baptismal font. Inside scenes of the Old Testament are depicted on eight beautiful alabaster stone panels along the lower walls. These may represent the single precious example of sacred medieval Jewish art that arrived in Sicily. The Baptismal pool is carved out of a monolithic marble sarcophagus from the XV century and carries the relief of the royal Spanish emblems of Aaragona and Castiglia and a Jewish inscription. These are extremely important medieval archaeological findings that bear witness to a Jewish presence in Sicily and which could lead one to think of an historical existence in Siculiana of a never recorded small Jewish district.
