Saint Margaret Church
The church was established by Eleonora of Aragona in 1342, but was completely transformed and enlarged in 1594, thanks to a large donation from the wealthy Catalan merchant Antonio Pardo, who is rightfully considered to be the second founder. Traces of the first church, which was incorporated into the second, are visible externally in the perimeter walls. The noteworthy Gothic Catalan style portal stands out on the main façade, while on the north side the structure is enriched by a white marble portal designed by Francesco Laurana. Stuccos and decorations, carefully carried out between 1609 and 1624 by Orazio Ferraro, renowned seventeenth century Sicilian stucco artist and painter, enhance the Baroque style interior. This church is now closed to worship.
