Rahal al Merath was an Arab farmstead first inhabited by the Salah and later by inhabitants of other farmhouses, giving life to a new Sala, which then became Sala dei Paruta, following the sale of barony to Ruggiero Paruta in 1496. Completely destroyed by the 1968 earthquake, the old centre was abandoned and the new Salaparuta rose up a few kilometres away.
