Mother Church and Church of the Trinity
Churches
Salaparuta (TP)
The works of art recovered from the rubble left by the earthquake are now held in the two new churches, the Mother Church and the Church of the Trinity. At the entrance of the first, built on the design by Gaetano Averna, stands the statue of the White Queen of Navarra, one of the first examples of fifteenth century Sicilian sculpture. Inside the church the precious Crucifix of Brother Benedetto Valenza (1755) and the painted stone depicting the Madonna del Piraino (XVI century) are preserved. The Church of the Trinity, designed by the architect Vito Corte, is more simple and linear, preceded by a large churchyard. Other buildings that are worthy of attention include the architectural Observatory, developed to contain the reconstruction projects of public works of the towns in the Belìce Valley, and the Community Centre, by the architect Saverio Bono.
