The practice of wine-production, which has always been present in the district of Salaparuta, today dominates the agricultural sector. The white and red wines produced in the municipality territory were certified Denominazione di Origine Controllata (DOC – Controlled Designation of Origin) in 2006. The local vine-varieties Catarratto, Grillo, Insolia, Grecanico and Nero D’Avola have been placed alongside international vine-varieties such as Chardonnay, Sangiovese, Syrah, Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon, which are capable of expressing wine characteristics of extraordinary merit.
