Old Fishing Village of Porto Palo
Monuments
Menfi (AG)
The ancient fishing village of Porto Palo lies at the centre of a wide gulf and is today the most famous seaside resort in the district, also used a mooring area for pleasure boats as well as a small number of small fishing vessels. A watchtower, built on the summit of the headland in 1583, unmistakably dominates the outline of the village. The ancient fishing settlement crawls up the headland with small white houses, that have preserved their original features, looking over the port, the ancient eastern dock of nearby Selinunte. The shoreline has fine clear sand and it is here that the few seaside establishments in the area are concentrated, leaving free access to the beach, awarded the Blue Flag for its uncontaminated pure waters.
