Orange from Ribera DOP

Local Food Product

The introduction of citrus fruits in Sicily traces back to the Arab domination and the first citrus orchards go back to the X century. Thanks to the balance between the nature of the soil and the climate, the excellent quality of the waters and the skilled knowledge of the citrus farmers, the best oranges in the district are produced in what is known as the “Valle degli Esperidi”. The production begins in the first ten days of November with the Navelina variety and continues, from December through to May, with the Brasiliano and Washington Navel varieties. The Ribera Orange, with its pleasant flavour, has a white pulp and is seedless, making it perfect for orange salads, sweets and desserts.
The Consorzio di Tutela (Consortium of Protection) was created in 1994, not only to safeguard and boost the marketing of the product, but also to enhance the value of the Riberella trademark, since then a synonym of guarantee and quality.
