Nativity Scene in Murano Glass
The glass nativity scene is made up of seventeen characters of various dimensions that range between thirty and ninety centimetres. The figures were sketched, by Pippo Madè from Palermo, on Murano glass using the “flying hand” technique, that through different types of fusion for every singles piece enables particular chromatic effects. The characters are those typical of a Sicilian nativity scene: other than Mary, Joseph and Baby Jesus there are shepherds and animals, including a camel. The piece of work was placed, in a permanent exhibition, in a small post-modern building designed by the architects Purini and Thermes and located behind Elimo Square. Originally a bus station it was subsequently transformed into an exposition space with large windows that allow the display to be seen from outside.
