Wild Strawberry
Local Food Product
The district of Ribera has become famous for this small fruit that grows at the foot of lemon, orange and peach trees, which, thanks to their height, guarantee the strawberries greater protection from the intense heat. The tiny, spherical, bright red fruit is aromatic and highly scented. Its cultivation is however both difficult and demanding. The Ribera strawberry has a relatively short harvesting season that spans from the beginning of April until the end of May, as well as a short consumption and processing period, no later than two or three days after harvest. In order to safeguard and give value to its distinctive characteristics, the Ribera strawberry has become a recognised Slow Food Product.
