The “Santa Margherita di Belìce” Protected Denomination of Origin controlled wines use only grapes that come from vineyards located inside the districts of Santa Margherita of Belìce and Montevago. The white and red wines posses the specifications of one of the following vine-varieties: Catarratto, Grecanico, Ansonica, Nero d’Avola and Sangiovese. The production area belongs to a land where the presence of wine-making bears witness to the period of Greek colonisation in Sicily and also during the era of Imperial Rome.
