Municipal Gardens
Natural area
Santa Margherita di Belice (AG)
The Public Gardens make up the other large green area in Santa Margherita besides the Villa of “The Leopard”. They are situated at the entrance to the town and spread out over an elongated area with an avenue that leads from one end to the other. Inside lie a small circular temple called “Café House”, dating back to the second half of the nineteenth century, and a statue of Flora, placed on a base in the square in front of the small temple. In “Childhood Memories” Giuseppe Tomasi of Lampedusa describes it like this: “On rainy autumn days the afternoon stroll was limited to the Public Garden… It was donated to the Municipality by my grandfather and had a limitless melancholy: a fairly long avenue boarded by young cypresses and old holm oaks flowed into a square… and on the left a sort of small temple kiosk with a spherical dome from which you could see the panorama. And it was worth it…”.
