Baronia Woods

The Baronia wood extends over around 670,000 sq. m and lies less than 2 km from the centre of Vita. From the wood, that reaches a maximum height of 630 metres, it is possible to admire a spectacular panorama. The area offers spaces equipped for picnics, walking paths and mountain biking. In the wood you can find “i nivieri”, ancient large concave constructions, shaped like upside-down cones, in which great quantities of snow were stored that, when properly insulated with layers of straw and earth, kept without melting for several months. This encouraged commercial activity all over the province and provided considerable water resources during the summer. Inside the largely coniferous wood, also home to black locust trees, patches of the old oak tree wood survive with their floral entourage.
