Cucchitelle
Local Food Product
A typical bite-size sweet from Sciacca, made for the first time in 1380 by nuns from the Santa Maria of Itria Monastery of Sciacca. The name comes from its half-a-spoon shape, “cucchiteddi”, a base of almond dough stuffed with “cucuzzata” (candied squash) and then glazed with sugar. It is considered one of the true masterpieces of Sicilian patisserie.
