Calamonaci

Agrigento

Between the eighth and tenth centuries Calamonaci was inhabited by the Saracens. Although the first written evidence of its existence dates back to 1287, it was only in 1574 that Antonio De Termini founded the current town on the feud of the same name. In the higher part of the town the distinctive Calvary stands out and the road leading up to it is entirely covered by stone slabs brought from Jerusalem.
