Caltabellotta (AG)
The Church of Saint Francis of Assisi, which originally belonged to the no longer existing Capuchin convent founded in 1614, stands at the southern periphery of the town. It features a linear pointed façade with an architrave portal. The interior is a single nave and displays pieces of work that bear witness to the intense sequence of historic monastic events: a large altarpiece by Brother Felix of Sambuca, which represents the Madonna with Child with Saints and Capuchin brothers at their feet in adoration (second half of the XVIII century), a monumental walnut-wood altar rich in carvings and early eighteenth century sculptures, which guards the relics of Sant’Onorato in a large urn, and lastly, on the main altar, a splendid wooden crucifix from the same period.
